Description
The outside of Eftychios Kafenion in Lakones, Corfu.
A traditional Kafenion (or Kafeneio) can be found in every Greek town, village, island and city and it’s not just a place where you go to drink a coffee but it’s a daily way of life. Greeks will spend long hours there talking, catching up on the latest news and playing games with friends and family.
Eftychios Kafenion also organises music evenings and traditional dancing on the square in front of the building.
Lakones is situated in northwest Corfu. It is a typical Corfiot village, 182 metres above sea level, and can be reached from Paleokastritsa on the coast by walking uphill for about 4 kilometres.
Lakones has a beautiful view over the coast. It also houses a Folklore and Photo History Museum, curated by Vasillis Michalas, a local taxi driver. This Museum can be visited by appointment or by asking the owner of the Kafenion, Eftychios, who has the key.
