Description
Wild yellow gorse flowering in front of Derreenataggart Stone Circle, 3,000 years old, dating from the Bronze Age. It is 7.8m in diameter and may originally have consisted of 15 Stones, of which 12 survive and 3 have fallen.
It lies on a plateau in the Slieve Miskish, west of the fishing port of Castletownbere, and overlooks Bantry Bay and Bere Island. It is a beautiful place where one can enjoy a moment of quiet reflection, peace and solitude.
THE BEARA PENINSULA:
In the far South West of Ireland the tides and winds of the Atlantic beat upon the mountains of the Slieve Miskish and Caha ranges. This is Beara. It is a hard land of mist and legends and enchanting beauty whose landscape, myths and magical light have inspired poets and artists across the ages.
