About Catherine Sullivan

Catherine Sullivan From a very early age I have enjoyed art in all its forms, later studying interior design, art and photography in London, Paris and Rome, where I lived and worked, as well as in the Middle East.
I have visited many parts of the world including the USA, where my mother once lived.
This experience has given me an invaluable adaptability and sensitivity, an ability to free myself from toxic situations and people and to search for the positive and essential things in life, all of which is reflected in my images.
My experience of coaching people has shown me that an appreciation of beauty in art and photography can help them to slow down, look around them, find out what makes them dream and think, leading them to choose the right paths on their journey through life.

In my photography I strive to stay true to reality while expressing the emotions I feel while capturing scenes reflecting the passage of time, the beauty which is all around us (yet might vanish at any moment), the light toying with shapes, texture and colours, and experimenting with the effect of emptiness or negative space in a photograph and on the mind.
In my abstract paintings, again, it is light which is the essential element, as it plays among the shapes, texture and colours of the painting. I translate the emotions felt at certain precise moments in time and in space, be they triggered by a beautiful sight, the changing weather, animals, or art in general and music in particular. Or perhaps fine conversation, love, anger, and the stresses and calms of everyday life.
