At low tide, seagulls love fishing and bathing in the eastern inlet of the port of Castletownbere.
The main road going from Glengariff to the extreme west of the Beara Peninsula crosses the inlet at the Brandy Hall Bridge, so called because this stretch of water was once a smugglers' creek. French brandy was their specialisation!
