I took this view of Bere Island looking downhill from near the Darreenataggart Stone Circle.
10,000 years ago ice covered the area and when it melted the sea levels rose and formed a stretch of sea called Berehaven, and an island called Bere Island. Castletownbere harbour, its port and houses, can be seen on the left hand side and Ardnakinna Lighthouse, protecting the entrance of Berehaven, can be seen on the right hand side of Bere Island.
