Description
To go from the village of Allihies, Cloan, the last village at the end of the Beara Peninsula, to the village of Eyeries, the most colourful village in Ireland, one can go by car, 16.7km. Much better is to follow the scenic trekking route through the Slieve Miskish low mountain range for 13.3km. It takes about 4 hours to reach the destination. Sometimes at the top of the mountains the rain cloud is very thick and the visibility is far from excellent but it improves on the way down as this picture shows.
THE BEARA PENINSULA:
In the far South West of Ireland the tides and winds of the Atlantic beat upon the mountains of the Slieve Miskish and Caha ranges. This is Beara. It is a hard land of mist and legends and enchanting beauty whose landscape, myths and magical light have inspired poets and artists across the ages.
